The minimum life in terms of the number of hours or the number of operating or load cycles that item is designed to function without fatigue failure. A piece of equipment must be withdrawn and either sent for overhaul or discarded altogether as recommended by the manufacturers. Also referred to as fatigue life. The term is not the same as calendar life, which is a function of time only.
